Wake Forest All-Americans Aubrey Bledsoe and Katie Stengel have been called up to the United States Under-23 National Team for its trip to La Manga, Spain to compete in the Six Nations Tournament.
During the tournament, the United States will face off against the U-23 teams from Japan (March 1), Sweden (March 3) and Norway (March 5).
A three-time All-American at Wake Forest, Bledsoe is one of only two goalkeepers on the U.S. roster, joining Texas’ Abby Smith. She finished her Wake Forest career with a number of school records including the top marks for career starts, shutouts and goals against average.
Also a three-time All-American, Stengel holds Wake Forest’s all-time scoring records with 50 career goals and 125 career points. She has been a regular in the youth national team system and was a member of the United States team that won the 2012 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Stengel missed the last nine games of her senior season with blood clots in her legs, but has recovered and has returned to training.
Both Bledsoe and Stengel will graduate from Wake Forest in May and will play for the LA Blues in the W-League this summer before pursuing a career overseas.
