Former Carolina RailHawks U-23’s and UNC midfielder, Enzo Martinez, has signed with the Carolina RailHawks for the 2014 NASL Season.
Martinez spent most of the 2013 Season on loan to the RailHawks from Real Salt Lake of Major League Soccer. In 2013, Martinez appeared in 15 matches and scored 3 goals while on duty in the RailHawks. The 23-year old returns to North Carolina on a permanent basis, where he led the RailHawks U-23’s to capture the 2011 USASA U-23 Men’s Regional and National Championships and captured the 2011 NCAA Men’s Soccer National Championship with the UNC Tar Heels.
“Enzo showed the ability that he had last year and we are glad to see him return,” said RailHawks head coach Colin Clarke. “He has the ability to change a game. We saw that last year in his goals against Minnesota. He has the ability and we look forward to seeing him continue his growth in 2014.”
Martinez scored two important goals on the road in Minnesota that helped the RailHawks claim the most points over the 2013 NASL Regular Season. His first goal in Minnesota at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome was a shot from distance that leveled the match at 2-2 in the final minutes of the match. The second goal was equally important, securing the RailHawks an important road victory and also another wonder-strike from distance (view here at the 2:20 mark).
During his time at UNC, Martinez appeared in 72 matches and scored 22 goals over a 3-year career. Martinez proved to be an integral part of the Tar Heel teams that went to three straight NCAA College Cups (2009-2011) and added the 2011 ACC Championship along with NCAA National Championship.
