A Dozen South Teams In Women’s NCAAs

Peach Belt Champions….Columbus State Cougars

Columbus State (18-1-1), Lenoir-Rhyne (16-3-2), Rollins (16-2) and Barry (11-1-3) received first round byes in the 48-team NCAA Division II Women’s National Championship tournament.

The winner of Armstrong Atlantic (12-5) vs. Wingate (12-2-4) will advance  to play Columbus State in the second round.  North Georgia (17-4-1) will meet Belmont Abbey (12-6-2) in the opening round of the Southeast Regional for advancement to play the L-R Bears.

In the South Regional Valdosta State (11-6-2) will take on Christian Brothers (13-5) with the winner advancing to play Rollins.  North Alabama (14-3-1) and Saint Leo (12-5) will open with a berth against Barry going to the winners.

Barry is making its 20th trip to D-II postseason play and has won three national titles in 1989, 1992 and 1993.

Western Washington (16-0-4), Minnesota-Mankato (21-0) Central Missouri (19-0-2) and Wisconsin-Parkside (17-0-3) enter the tournament as the four unbeaten teams.

The semifinals and championship game will take place Dec. 4 and 6 at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium in Louisville, Kentucky, hosted by Bellamine and the Louisville Sports Commission.
