Head Soccer Coach
Former Demon Deacon assistant and current University of Denver head coach Bobby Muuss has been named the head men’s soccer coach at Wake Forest University.
Muuss comes to Wake Forest after spending eight seasons at the University of Denver. He was previously an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator with the Demon Deacons from 2001-2007. Muuss replaces Jay Vidovich who was named head coach of the USLPRO team T2, an affiliate squad of the Portland Timbers.
“We’re happy to welcome Bobby back to Wake Forest,” said Wellman. “He had tremendous success at Denver with four league championships and a strong record. He has strong ties to Wake Forest after his six years as an assistant here and recruited some of the best players in program history including the 2007 National Championship team. We expect Bobby to continue the championship tradition of our soccer program.”
At Denver, Muuss compiled an overall record of 74-56-24 with a 39-20-10 mark in conference games. He was named Summit League Coach of the Year in 2013 after guiding the Pioneers to a 13-3-4 overall record and a perfect 6-0-0 mark in the conference. Under his leadership, Denver won Summit League titles in 2013 and 2014 and captured the league tournament title both seasons, earning back-to-back bids to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.
Muuss inherits a strong Wake Forest team that earned a spot this season in the NCAA Championship for the 12th time in the last 13 years and the 18th time in school history. Wake Forest finished the 2014 season with a 10-7-2 record which included wins over ranked teams such as Louisville, Connecticut and national champion Virginia.
