Two coaches and a soccer administrator have been named to the Class of 2018 for induction into the North Carolina Soccer Hall of Fame. Former High Point University men’s head coach Dr. Woody Gibson, longtime boys and girls high school coach Rob Wilcher, and Kathy Robinson, Executive Director of North Carolina Soccer will be inducted in January.
The induction banquet will be held in Raleigh at the Hilton North Raleigh/Midtown at 7:15 PM on Saturday, January 27, 2018. A reception before the banquet will begin at 6:15 PM.
Gibson coached the HPU men’s soccer and golf teams, and launched the Panthers women’s soccer intercollegiate team. He later assumed duties as Director of Athletics at High Point, his alma mater. With the men’s soccer team he had a record of 211-137-27. He previously has been inducted into the NAIA National HOF and the Guilford County Sports HOF.
Robinson has been an intragral part of the development of youth soccer in North Carolina as an administrator for over two decades. She has served on various committees at the state, regional and national levels, and serves as Vice-President of the N.C. Soccer Hall of Fame.
Wilcher, a Pennsylvanis native who played collegiate soccer at Appalachian State, coached both boys and girls soccer at TC Roberson High School. His coaching resume included more that 1,000 wins combined with both programs. His teams reached state championship games 10 time. His boys team won three of those State Championships.
The induction of the Class of 2018 will bring the total of inductees to 62. The inaugural NCSHOF induction class was 1997.
In addition, the Duke University Men’s Soccer Program will be inducted into the NCSHOF National Champions Hall of Honor in recognition of its 1986 NCAA Division I national championship.
