A Giant Step From Elite Eight To NCAA College Cup

Two 2011 Semifinalists Already Eliminated
UNC's Cameron Brown scored 90 seconds into the first overtime to give the Tar Heels a 1-0 win over Fairleigh Dickinson.


No games are easy games in the NCAA Division I tournament. Even the ones that would appear not to be close on paper can turn out to be tight on the field.

It has been said that the quarterfinal round is the most difficult. Perhaps it is from a psychological standpoint. Teams are within sight of the College Cup. Next win punches the ticket to the national semifinals.

Top-seeded Notre Dame won’t be there this year, but second-seeded Maryland has a quarterfinal meeting with Louisville. The Terrapins have been there before. So have the Cardinals.

North Carolina could not pull away from Fairleigh Dickinson in regulation in the Round of 16, but got a 1-0 win on a Cameron Brown goal 90 seconds into overtime.
