The first indication of what the U.S. Gold Cup roster will look like has been released with the 35-player preliminary list of players submitted to CONCACAF. That list includes both Landon Donovan and Carlos Bocanegra, but does not include all the ke European-based players who are on the team for upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Neither Donovan, its all-time leading scorer, nor Bocanegra, its longtime captain, has played for the national team in 2013.
Eleven of the 23 players on the U.S. roster for the Germany game are on the Gold Cup roster. (Two others, Edgar Castillo and Joe Corona, are joining the national team following Tijuana’s Libertadores Cup game in Brazil on Thursday night but won’t dress on Sunday.) The 10 other players on Sunday’s game-day roster are all European-based and will head on vacation after the final qualifier June 17 against Honduras in Sandy, Utah.
The roster includes only two uncapped players: forwards Jack McInerney (Philadelphia Union) and Bobby Wood (1860 Munich, Germany)
